Leaving Vang Vieng
Vang Vieng is an interesting place. It is the most beautiful town we have visited so far. At its core, Vang Vieng is a small, peaceful river town surrounded by stunning mountains. The beauty ultimately attracts a crazy mix of tourists, young and old(er). Older tourists end up staying in the nicer places and go on tours of the caves and waterfalls in the area. For the twenty something travelers, Vang Vieng is a haven - the planned two night stay often turns into a week, a month or even longer. This group basically does three things: they drink, watch sit-coms in bars and go tubing. Tubing is where you rent a tube, take a tuk tuk ride up the river and float down - hitting bar after bar on the way. Think MTV Spring Break but in a third world country. There are zip lines going from bar to bar and safety is completely out the window. It's quite a scene. If you're planning a trip to Laos, Vang Vieng is a must.
(sorry the picture is so dark, it was overcast the whole time we were there)
