That Dam
This stupa is one of Vientiane's oldest Buddhist structures. One legend says it was covered in gold until the Siamese stripped it down in 1828 and took off with the loot. After that, That Dam took on the black color seen today in memory of the crime. Another legend says it is home to a seven headed monster that came alive during the 1828 Siamese-Lao war to protect the people. We could not confirm either.
