This type of bathroom is common all over the region, especially in public places, like bars and train/bus stations. We refer to it as "the hole". It is necessary to always carry some toilet paper on you for this situation. Next to the hole is a tub full of water (in this case a trash can) with a scooper to pour water into the hole when you're done. This is the flush.
This bathroom obviously favors the man.
