Happy place

Now that we're leaving Southeast Asia, we thought we'd finally post something very important about every day life: the toilets (which the Vietnamese refer to as the "happy place"). Like anywhere in the world, bathrooms vary from establishment to establishment. Here, that means everything from a nice, clean "western" toilet to a hole in the dirt. The following posts are just a few examples of the different bathrooms we've encountered on our trip. Of course, the pictures can't portray the true bathroom experience, as smell plays a major role.

This picture shows a common fixture throughout 90% of the bathrooms in this region. It's referred to (by westerners) as "the bun gun". Basically, it's a water gun attached to a hose right next to the toilet. Since the plumbing is not so great in most of this region, people use the bun gun rather than toilet paper. It is certainly a wake up call if you've never used one before.
